Long-horizon agent runs break on state that drifts, tool schemas that quietly change shape, retrieval that hands back the wrong context, and error recovery after step twelve — not on the model’s raw reasoning at step one. A better model raises the ceiling on what a single well-scoped call can do. It does not repair the orchestration around it. You still own the retries, the fallbacks, and the eval harness that tells you whether the new model is actually better on your tasks or only on the vendor’s slides.
